Our Mission

Our mission is to promote and help create/maintain recreation and fitness trails and a bicycle-pedestrian-friendly community throughout the city and towns of Waterville, Winslow, Benton, Fairfield, and Oakland, Maine.

We work closely with the city, towns, colleges, hospitals, and others to create a community-wide network that will be a source of pride and benefit for generations to come.

This mission is a multi-faceted effort to improve the health of our community, provide a model of regional cooperation, and attract attention to aesthetic values throughout our community. Our vision is a network of trails, sidewalks, and bike lanes contributing to a healthy and active community with spaces for people to meet, play, and exercise with a network of connections providing travel alternatives to the automobile. We anticipate that our efforts will contribute to downtown and riverfront revival, increase property values in the vicinity of trails, attract business, and, overall, make for a most pleasant and livable community.

The Trails

The trails are designed for walking, running, and cycling, with cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during winter. Some are paved and several are ADA-compliant. They showcase some of our local beautiful scenery, surprisingly hidden amidst our neighborhoods. Not far from bustling College Avenue, just a minute’s walk from downtown Waterville, just a quick turn off the Kennebec River bridges, and right behind the Alfond Center, are interesting vistas and quiet pathways. KMTrails seeks to make these spots readily accessible to all citizens of Central Maine.

The Community

KMTrails efforts have met with widespread support from the business leaders of the Greater Waterville area, as well as the City of Waterville, and Towns of Winslow, Benton, Fairfield and Oakland. So we invite you to explore our site, and share our vision by volunteering, contributing, or just voicing your support.
